Inclement Weather Procedures

To Students, Parents, and Community Members,

We are at that time of year when school may be canceled due to poor roads, cold days, heating system failure(s), or anything else the harsh northern Michigan winters may present. I want to inform you of several procedures we have at Les Cheneaux Community Schools.

  • If school is canceled for any of the reasons listed above, you will be informed prior to 6:15 a.m. You will be notified by our school Facebook page, school messenger, and your local news station.

  • If the “feel like” temperature is -30, we consider that a “cold day” which results in no school for the day.

  • School days canceled due to poor road conditions are decided by the Superintendent, who communicates frequently with the county road commission to determine whether the roads are safe for transporting students.

  • If a two-hour delay is called, school will start at 10:00 a.m. Breakfast will not be served. Students will enter through the same doors as they normally do to enter the building in the morning.

  • When there is no school due to cancellation, extracurriculars may continue for that day. A decision by the principals, coaches and athletic director(s) will be made in a timely manner to decide whether practices or contests are canceled or not. Ideally, this decision will be made no later than 1:00 p.m. This applies to all extracurriculars in grades K-12.

If you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact me at any time. Thank you and have a great rest of the week!

Sincerely,

Bob Lohff

Superintendent, 9-12 Principal
